Funeral services for Gerald Wayne "Jerry" Williams, Jr. were held
Friday, November 30, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church in
Greybull, Wyoming. Gerald, 70, died November 23 at Hot Springs County
Memorial Hospital in Thermopolis, Wyoming.
He was born January 19, 1937 in Billings, the son of Gerald
Wayne Sr. and Alice Priscilla Shultz Williams. His father owned the
First National Bank of Greybull, but Gerald soon decided he did not
want to become a banker. He worked for a brief time as a police
officer in Greybull.
He joined the US Army in 1960 and part of his military duty was in
Thule, Greenland working on meteorological equipment. He was honorably
discharged from the Army in 1966 and went on to attend the University
of Colorado where he earned his bachelor's degree in electrical
engineering.
Jerry married Patty Ann Newbold in 1963. He worked in the
aerospace industry as an electrical engineer for many years in both
California and Arizona. He holds a patent for a Shaft Speed and
Angular Position Indicating System. In 1983 Jerry earned his master's
degree in electrical engineering from California State University in
Los Angeles.
After a series of serious illnesses Jerry moved back to
Greybull and started a second career as an author and professional
photographer. He wrote several mystery novels as well as non-fiction
works. He was a ham operator, an avid skier and a rock collector.
During the last few years he enjoyed chasing nearby thunderstorms,
taking photographs of nature and people, playing chess, watching
movies and studying the Bible. He was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church in Greybull and attended regular Bible study
classes.
His parents, his son Wayne Gerald Williams on Dec. 28, 1997,
and his sister Jean Wright preceded him in death. He is survived by
his former wife, Patty Ann Williams of Mesa, Ariz.; his daughter and
son-in-law Natalie Alice and Dan Becker of Colorado Springs; one
granddaughter, Katelyn Sarah Becker, of Colorado Springs, and two
nephews, Ronald Wright and his wife Patricia, and Wayne Wright, all of
Greybull. Additional surviving relatives include Laurie and Jack Lipp
(niece and nephew once removed); Matthew and Melissa Lipp (nephew and
niece twice removed); Carrie Wright, Deanna Wright, and Jo Lynn Wright
(nieces once removed).
